What is Sustainability?

For the Reale Group, sustainability means being able to reconcile achieving effectiveness and efficiency with economic development and social and environmental protection, while ensuring long-lasting growth and with the support of the various stakeholders.

Today, 190 years after its foundation, the world has changed, but the basic principle of mutuality has taken on new significance in the context of the modern concepts of sustainability and CSR.

Sustainability is deep-rooted and radical. Deep-rooted because it dates back to the foundation of Reale Mutua 190 years ago and the concept of mutuality that underpins all of our activities and enterprises across the world, regardless of their business. Radical because, although not everything is sustainability, we incorporate the concept of sustainability into our business through various activities that have a positive impact on all our internal and external stakeholders. We do this through economic activities that are closely linked to our core business, as well as philanthropic activities the end goal of which is somehow linked to our business.

The fundamental ingredients of sustainability for Reale Group are independence, transparency and mutuality in our dealings with all our internal and external stakeholders. These are the guiding principles that inform our sustainability policies because they can be adapted to the various stakeholders in a tailor-made, bespoke way, in order to respond to their needs in terms of business and transparency

Corporate volunteering

Reale Seguros Generales introduced a corporate volunteering programme in 2014 as a tool for social change and to generate value.

In 2017, the Italian companies also implemented a structured volunteering programme, built into their human resources policies, with an exceptional network of partners. Corporate volunteering means consolidating Reale Group's commitment to integrated, strategic philanthropy that can generate positive and measurable impacts, in line with the mission of Reale Foundation, Reale Group's corporate foundation, and with the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations in the Agenda 2030.

Corporate Volunteering is in keeping with the mutualistic principles guiding the Group, allowing a portion of the value generated to be reinvested in communities. It offers a way for Reale Group personnel to get involved in the sustainability strategy, conveying the values of the Group through practical activities and contributing to promoting new working methods.

The guiding principles of corporate volunteering are: Passion, Inclusivity, Responsibility and Solidarity.

Commitment to the environment

In keeping with its mutualistic principles, Reale Group is committed to contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the United Nations Agenda 2030; goals identified in areas of interest to Reale Foundation and activities with an environmental impact deemed significant by the Group.

In order to consolidate its commitments to significant material topics, Reale Group has drawn up a Sustainability Strategy, approved by the Boards of Directors of Companies in the Group, that sets out medium-long term objectives and at the same time includes an Environmental Policy involving a commitment by the Group to minimising its environmental impacts.

An Environmental Management System was implemented for Reale Mutua in 2012 and certified by RINA S.p.A. as conforming to the UNI EN ISO 14001 international standard. This was extended to all Italian and Spanish companies in the Reale Group in 2017.

Through adoption of risk management policies, the Group is committed to preventing pollution, protecting the environment, meeting its compliance obligations and continuously improving environmental performance.

Reale Group is also committed to combating climate change by minimising the environmental impact of its activities in Italy, Spain and Chile through full carbon offsetting and engaging in initiatives to minimise CO2 emissions.  UN EN ISO 14001 certification, smart working, implementing sustainable mobility solutions and projects aimed at minimising the use of plastic and paper are just some of the initiatives introduced to date.
